Know Your Limoges

Did you know Limoges isn't a brand - it's a place of manufacture for fine porcelain?

Hard-paste porcelain at Limoges, France began in 1771. The first porcelain production in Limoges was with Turgot, following the discovery of Kaolin and another necessary material in the earth in an area near Limoges.

The materials' quarry began in 1768, and soon after, production of hard-paste porcelain similar to Chinese porcelain began.

The Limoges porcelain manufacturing golden era blossomed after the French Revolution - around 1800 - with the opening of factories such as Haviland & Co., Royal Limoges, and Bernardaud.
